As he read further into the Necronomicon, he came to the realization that
its medieval author sought to make the argument his reader was already
dead and the text a hallucination, an afterdeath anteroom leading only
to another dream on either side, a way-station whose illusion cannot be
escaped except through the regimen outlined there by the 'ancient' and
clearly malignant voice...
