Actually shmoetry is visited by very few, and
is being hailed nowhere for its sheer genius. Part of me sees this as perfectly
natural for any number of reasons; and I am not sure but that it's a good
thing. Perhaps the way to think of it is that I've gotten away with something,
that it's my sheer luck our culture has been unprepared to focus its destructive
powers on me.
But another
part of me struggles to cope with an aesthetic rejection, to make sense
of the judgment.
The businessmen
make no offers. The reviewers and art establishment have not been generous
with their plaudits.
