flashes of intelligence in my sleep-starved brain like coded lightning over the sea
out the bus window as I hump the burden of my jet lag toward the channel
before the landscape in me fades again, the sheep into pixels of interference on a green screen

again, a bit later passing through a town
for a moment in the flash I see the animals there all along under the clothes
like sighting a herd of mountain goats on a distant slope
but the moment passes
the fucking humans reclaim their meaning

and I don't know how long this can go on
maybe I should use up all my money
and
die
for
once
